An imposing Victorian mansion in Bath with striking valley views, this property needed a grand yet restrained landscape context. Combining both family home and rental apartment the need for separate outdoor spaces was integral to the design solution, whilst ensuring the integrity of the impressive Victorian architecture and its stunning setting were maintained and enhanced.
A grand terrace is composed of a series of linked yet distinct spaces comprising private, intimate gardens, larger entertaining areas and a garden reserved for apartment guests. An expansive formal lawn links these spaces together yet is large enough to offer sufficient privacy for both guests and family. Formal geometry, clipped evergreens and clean lines give the garden a contemporary yet classical feel. Nearby development with the potential to mar the views required appropriate screening and the sympathetic integration of ample parking space was an important requirement of the design brief.
