ClientHugo Bugg Landscapes Ltd
A large rural garden set in a magical woodland setting, the site nevertheless proved challenging. Steep slopes, heavy clay soil and deep shade were at odds with the clients desire for colour, light and vibrancy. A roof terrace overlooking the steeply sloping garden provided views from a different perspective. The design took advantage of this aspect by ensuring the garden can be enjoyed from above as well as from within.
Sinuous pathways were created to provide access to all areas and to integrate the garden into the surrounding woodland. Dramatic plants with bold foliage suited to damp woodland conditions were contrasted with large drifts of colourful perennials in the sunnier spots. The garden comes alive with contrasts of shade and sunlight.
